Soprano, crossover artist, and voice teacher
A legally blind soprano with a bright, sparkling voice. At home in Mozart, sacred music, and musical theatre, in more than a dozen languages. Based in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Oct 24Saturday, 5 to 7 PM
Sara joins DFW Opera Underground for a spooky, funny Halloween show of classical singing at The Wine Therapist, 1909 Skillman Street in Dallas, singing the comic "Cat Duet" and "O zittre nicht" from The Magic Flute.
Sara Barkouras is a soprano with a bright, agile voice and a love for music that crosses every line: opera, art song, sacred music, and musical theatre.
Based in Dallas-Fort Worth, she is a legally blind crossover artist who sings in thirteen languages. She performs with opera companies, festival choruses, and churches across North Texas, and teaches the next generation of singers.
The voice
Sara's voice has grown from a light lyric soprano into a lyric coloratura, and the top of her range is where she feels most at home. That shift has opened the door to the sparkling, high-flying repertoire she loves, from Mozart and Handel to Gounod's "Je veux vivre."
She has sung in English, French, German, Italian, Latin, Spanish, Russian, Czech, Hungarian, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and Māori. See her repertoire
On stage
Sara recently returned to Opera Arlington as Third Spirit in The Magic Flute, after appearing in the company's Don Giovanni and Masquerade Soirée.
Other recent credits include Edith in The Pirates of Penzance with Wedgwood Arts, the ensemble of The Prince of Egypt with the Grand Prairie Arts Council, and solo appearances with Music Ministry Conservatory and DFW Opera Underground. All performances
In community
Some of Sara's favorite music happens in a group. She sings first soprano in Lumina Vocum with Music Ministry Conservatory, second soprano in the Wedgwood Chamber Singers, and serves as a chorister and section leader in churches across the metroplex.
Sacred music is close to her heart. Her faith is the reason she sings, and it shapes how she approaches every performance.
The teacher
Offstage, Sara teaches private voice at Euless Trinity High School and coaches students preparing for TMEA All-State. Through her virtual studio, she works with singers wherever they are.
She is passionate about helping students trust their voices and about making the arts a place where everyone belongs. Study with Sara
Training
Sara holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees from Southern Methodist University, in Music (Voice) and in Corporate Communication and Public Affairs with a focus on Nonprofit and Arts Leadership.
She trained at the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Piobbico, Italy, and studied classical voice at the Orange County School of the Arts.

Sara teaches classical, musical theatre, and sacred singing to high school students and adults. Lessons build breath, resonance, and freedom in the voice, then put that technique to work in music the student loves.
Every student learns differently. As a legally blind musician, Sara knows this firsthand. Lessons adapt to how each singer hears, reads, and moves.
